handoff

Install mattpocock/skills

A 940-byte skill that writes a session summary for the next agent to your temp folder, tells it to redact secrets and to link rather than copy. MIT.

Verified · Repo on GitHub

What it does

Turns the current conversation into a handoff document a fresh agent can pick up: what was done, what is next, and a "suggested skills" section. You can pass what the next session will focus on. It links to existing specs, plans, ADRs, issues and commits instead of copying them, and tells the agent to redact API keys, passwords and personal data.

Who made it / license / last checked

Matt Pocock (mattpocock/skills) · License: MIT (repo LICENSE) · Repo last commit checked: 2026-10-29

Install

claude plugin install mattpocock-skills@claude-plugins-official

From the repo README (Claude Code route; it installs the whole pack, so the skills this one calls come with it). For other agents the README gives npx skills@latest add mattpocock/skills -a <agent>. We did not run the installer.

What files / scripts it runs

SKILL.md (940 bytes) and an agents/openai.yaml display file. No scripts. User-invoked only. The agent writes one file to your OS temp folder ($TMPDIR, /tmp or %TEMP%), not into the repo.

Pros

  • Does one job with a tiny surface area
  • Keeps the repo clean and avoids duplicating docs that already exist
  • Asks for redaction of secrets and personal data

Cons

  • Redaction is an instruction to the model, not a filter: read the file before you share it
  • Temp folders are cleared by some systems — move the file if you need it later

Alternatives

Your agent's built-in compaction or resume features; a hand-written NOTES.md.

Notes

Skills.sh listed handoff at 1.1M installs (#14) on 30 Oct 2026.

Verified on 2026-11-04 through the GitHub API: it has had no commit since the 30 Oct check, so the files, sizes and verdict above still hold. Previous check on 2026-10-30, from a fresh clone of the repo (commit a496f55, 2026-10-29) and the skills.sh leaderboard fetched that day. Repo last-commit is a repo date, not a per-skill release date. Install counts are distribution, not quality.
