Install with caution mattpocock/skills

Labels, briefs and closes issues through a clear state machine. User-invoked, MIT, but it runs external PR code to verify it — use a sandbox.

What it does

Runs your issue tracker as a small state machine: every issue (and, if you opt in, every external pull request) gets one category (bug or enhancement) and one state (needs-triage, needs-info, ready-for-agent, ready-for-human, wontfix). For a single item it gathers context, checks whether the request is already built or was rejected before, verifies the claim, grills you if needed and then posts an agent-ready brief, triage notes, or closes the issue.

Who made it / license / last checked

Install

claude plugin install mattpocock-skills@claude-plugins-official

From the repo README (Claude Code route; it installs the whole pack, which this skill needs). For other agents the README gives npx skills@latest add mattpocock/skills -a <agent>. It expects the label mapping from /setup-matt-pocock-skills. We did not run the installer.

What files / scripts it runs

SKILL.md (6,558 bytes), AGENT-BRIEF.md (7,942 bytes) and OUT-OF-SCOPE.md (4,667 bytes) as reference docs, plus an agents/openai.yaml display file. No scripts. User-invoked only (disable-model-invocation: true). It acts through your agent's tools: it labels, comments on and closes issues, and writes rejected ideas to .out-of-scope/ in your repo.

Pros

  • Clear states and one label per kind, so the queue stays readable
  • Checks for an existing implementation and for earlier rejections before recommending anything
  • Every comment it posts starts with an "AI-generated during triage" disclaimer
  • Waits for your direction after recommending, and asks before unusual transitions

Cons

  • To verify a pull request it tells the agent to check out the diff and run its tests or commands: on an external PR that runs a stranger's code on your machine. Use a sandbox or skip that step
  • It posts and closes on a public tracker: read each action before you approve it
  • Needs the pack's setup skill and the grilling and domain-modeling skills to work as written

Alternatives

Your tracker's own triage labels and templates; GitHub issue forms for the "needs-info" part.
